Columnbuilder.com offers custom built architectural columns made
from fiberglass reinforced polymers. Our columns consist of three
distinguished elements: the capital, the shaft and the base that
together may be matched to create architectural columns. All
columns are factory assembled and adjusted to our clients'
requirements. |

The Shaft
Fiberglass columns are available plain or fluted,
tapered or non-tapered, from 6 to 30 feet in height and 6 to 36
inches in diameter. Deep, sharp flutes and smooth,
simple to finish surfaces set Fiberglass columns apart from others.
The two columns (plane
and fluted) featured on the right are tapered. It was Vitrivius, a
Roman architect and engineer, who wrote, in the first century B.C.,
what became an influential work on classic form. In the book
Vitrivius elaborated on the discovery by the Ancient Greeks of
entasis, a gradual tapering of the upper two-thirds of the column
which offsets the undesirable illusion from eye level that the shaft
grows larger as it ascends. |

The
Base
We offer two bases: the
Attic, crafted in the ancient style of Attica, and the Tuscan base,
a design which originated in 16th century Italy.
Please make a note of
where the flute ends and plain column starts, the end of the column
then hides in the base. Our customers, on occasions, ask us to
adjust the flute which means: how high above the base should the
flute start, or how high, above the base, is the plain area of the
fluted column. We adjust the flutes in 1/2 inch increments up to 4
inches.

The Material
Each
column carries a exceptional load bearing capacity. The
Worthington Cast Column is made from highly advanced
fiberglass reinforced polymers, which make the column
durable.

Low
Maintenance
Fiberglass columns are lightweight and require very
little maintenance. They are ideal for indoor and
outdoor applications because all parts are
non-porous, waterproof, and impervious to insect
infestation.
When used outdoors, Fiberglass columns must
be protected with at least one coat of quality exterior paint.
Once painted, they can withstand long-term exposure to severe
weather.
